We are a network of mental health professionals in the DC metro area …
Assalamu ‘Alaikum
Welcome to the Potomac Muslim Counseling Link. We are a network of mental health professionals in the DC metro area who serve the Muslim population with mental health and social service related needs. We are a group of individuals, some of whom work independently in private practice and some of whom work within larger organizations. Our intention, insha’allah, is to provide a comprehensive resource for Muslims to be better able to access the services available in this area and to find help that best fits their specific needs.
Please click on the menu selections at the top of this page to find answers to commonly asked questions, find a provider that fits your needs, or to find links to helpful organizations.
The Prophet, peace be upon him, used to counsel the Muslims about matters of everyday life aside from religious fatwas. RasulAllah, sallalahu alayhi wa salam, knew that the people struggled with life even if they had strong iman.
About Us
In 2008, a group of mental health professionals came together as a result of a shared interest in addressing the unmet mental health needs of the Muslim community. In order to help fill that need, these professionals decided to establish a referral website listing Muslim mental health providers, providers of other faiths who are attuned to the needs of Muslims, and other individuals who assist community members with life’s challenges. We hope that this multi-disciplinary list will help anyone who accesses it find someone who fits their needs, and that those interested in improving their mental health in general will benefit from the other resources included on the website insha’allah.
The professionals listed on this website have in common experience and willingness to work with the Muslim community but may not necessarily be Muslim themselves. Please refer to each listing to learn more details about each provider.
We would like to acknowledge that these providers are not affiliated with one another, and each have their own strengths and philosophy of treatment. We hope the information provided will help you find someone that fits your particular situation. As with any service, we encourage you to check with state licensing boards for any other information that they may have about the provider you are thinking about visiting. It is appropriate to set up a session to “interview” a provider to ensure a good match. Research shows that the relationship between the therapist and the client is one of the most important factors in the effectiveness of the counseling.
We have included some questions for you to consider asking in the preliminary phone call or visit (click here).
Services Provided
All of the providers in this directory offer mental health services. Each provider has a different set of credentials, education and experience. Some of the service providers specialize in certain areas of concern and/or specialize in working with certain populations. To the right is a list including some of the issues and areas of concern that these providers address.
